Faculty in the department are very active researchers, 10 of the top 20 researchers in the College are MMAE faculty. During the 2006 fiscal year, MMAE faculty brought in a total of 9.23 million in new research funding.Funding is obtained from various agencies including NSF, NASA, AFOSR, DOE, Siemens Power Generation, in areas such as Thermal Management, Advanced Gas Turbines, Nano-Scale Flow and Heat Transfer, Inigition and Combustion Characteristics, Bio-MEMS, Advanced Coatings, Materials Characterization, Bio-Materials Nano-Materials, Shape Memory Alloys.
Over 100 Research Articles were published in Journals such as Procedures National Academic Sciences, Physics Review Letter, Applied Physics Letters, Nanoletters and many others. MMAE faculty participated in over 100 conference proceedings; published six (6) books, wrote three (3) book chapters and were issued eight (8) Patents.
